New Minister also for the Environment, in view of Cop26
(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 26 – Justin Trudeau changes the face of his government again and for the third term as premier of Canada, after winning the federal elections last month, he chooses two women to lead the defense and foreign ministries .
The most sensational choice remains that of having replaced the Minister of Defense, Harjit Sajjan, at the center of the controversy since last February for the way in which he handled the sexual harassment scandal involving the Canadian army.
In its place, Anita Anand, who as Minister of Public Services, handled Canada’s procurement during the pandemic, including the provision of Covid vaccines. She is the second woman to hold the role of Defense Minister. The other change concerns Foreign Affairs: another woman, Melanie Joly, former Minister of Economic Development, will occupy the role. Finally, Steven Guilbeault, a well-known climate activist, is the new Minister of the Environment. The theme is dear to Trudeau who has chosen Guilbeault to support Canada’s contribution to the UN summit on climate change to be held in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November. (HANDLE).
