Canicattì, the inefficiencies of Girgenti Acque are now a case that must be faced

The press release of the (nth) maintenance of the Fanaco aqueduct arrives as punctual as a Swiss clock. Girgenti Acque limits itself to informing the Institutions – Municipality and Prefecture – that the aqueduct stops and in the general indifference of the same Institutions it is allowed that entire city districts remain without water for weeks. The last case is that of this period: since May 26 there are maintenance works (yet another) at Fanaco and even the weekly distribution shift has been skipped. That is, thousands of people are left without water for ten days without the institutions – administration, city council and prefecture – having to complain.

But it is the entire service of Girgenti Acque, the company that has been managing the integrated water service for the past 20 years, that needs to be rethought and probably retired. They had promised water 24 hours a day and the result is what you see in the photo. And the problem is that this is not an exception, but a habit. The “excuse” of the supply problems, after twenty years, perhaps no longer holds: are we sure that the company in question is able to manage a service for which it charges among the highest rates in Italy?
