The childhood memories, the nuns’ school and the subsidiary, the days with the father, the wishes of a girl who dreamed of singing on a stage, the relationship with her son and the usual original look on the things of the world. There is a lot of Carmen Consoli’s life in the latest “Volevo fare la rockstar”, an album that goes straight to the heart right from the cover photo: a little Consoli with a school uniform, bow, pen and a not so convinced look.
The singer-songwriter from Catania arrives tonight at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi (double date, repeated tomorrow, concert within Milan Music Week) to tell the journey of her twenty-five-year career – the debut “Two words” was in 1996 – milestone celebrated last summer at the Verona Arena with an evening that was not only a concert but also a party with friends. The tour that arrives tonight in Milan is the tour of a musician who can now afford to spend six years between one record and another, to tour Italy in a camper; to convene Marina Rei next to him (on drums for all the tour dates) and to rely once again on the inseparable guitarist Massimo Roccaforte, a friend from the times of the Catania concerts in the early nineties, the times of the covers of Janis Joplin and a talent that was noticed by a fellow citizen who did so much for the independent scene of those years, the producer Francesco Virlinzi.
The first part of the concert will be dutifully dedicated to the new songs of “I wanted to be a rock star”: from the dialogue with the son of “The things of always” to the attack on the politics that creates fears and closures of “The black man”, from Peter Buck style guitars from “Something about me you don’t expect” to the delicacy of “A Sunday at the sea”. To follow, all the rest. And what else: the plastic loves of the beginnings, the cry “Confused and happy” that conquers Sanremo, the rock rides of “Mediumly hysterical”, the artistic awareness achieved with the 2001 live at the Greek Theater of Taormina and with albums such as ” Elettra ”and“ The habit of returning ”.
