Carnival 2024: A journey towards cultural recovery and a sense of belonging

With the dazzling launch of the carnival at the Santa Marta Theater, the District’s carnival festivities officially began, marking a determined commitment by the District’s Secretary of Culture to revitalize the Samarian sense of belonging through this emblematic celebration.

The social manager, Bleydis Pérez, inaugurated the event by highlighting the administration’s commitment to supporting the recovery of the culture and identity of the Samarians, especially in view of the 500 years of the city. The Secretary of Culture, Darío Linero Mejía, stressed the importance of this cultural commitment, focused on rescuing the roots and sense of belonging that culture provides.

An emotional conversation about the history of the carnival in Santa Marta, led by the historian Joaquín Viloria and the cultural managers Alaín Manjarrés and Graciela “Chela” Orozco, highlighted the work of the Secretary of Culture in the recovery of these festivities since 2016, when it was considered lost.

The presentation of the kings and queens of the carnival added a touch of splendor, announcing figures such as Salomé Paola Gonzales Rolong and Yosimar Jiménez. The evening concluded with a vibrant display of folk dances, an outstanding musical performance by Indira Larsh and Mari Paz, and the presence of important local authorities.

The support of allied companies and institutions, such as Bavaria, Liconsumar, Supergiros, Cocacola, Banco de la República, the National Police, Crevc, Atesa and BDN, highlights the community support for these celebrations.

The District Mayor’s Office invites all Samarios to enjoy in peace the Great Reading of the Bando on the Pescaíto neighborhood field, scheduled for next Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 pm, it will conclude with a concert open to the public.
