At least two cars have been set on fire on roads in Esmeraldas, and one in Los Ríos; Three police officers have been kidnapped from a Police Control Unit in Machala, and another in Quito, as an apparent reaction to the declaration of the State of emergency by the president Daniel Noboathe afternoon of this Monday, January 8, 2024.
In the Puerto Bolívar canton, Machala, three National Police agents have been kidnapped at the UPC where they were. While in Quito, another kidnapped police officer has been recorded, forced to read a proclamation to President Noboa.
