The Palermo Ismett team worked in the night after the okay of the family members of a patient who died of cerebral hemorrhage
A multiple organ harvest was performed at the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania on a person who died of a cerebral hemorrhage. The observation ended yesterday at 2.30 pm and the family members gave their consent to the donation. A team from the Ismett of Palermo removed the liver, kidneys and corneas.
The operations engaged the health workers from 2 am last night until the early hours of this morning. The process, managed by the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Complex Operational Unit directed by Dr. Maria Concetta Monea and coordinated by the Cannizzaro transplant referent, Dr. Antonella Mo, was carried out in close collaboration with the Regional Transplant Center of Sicily coordinated by Dr. Giorgio Battaglia.
“I warmly thank the family members of the person who donated, the health workers involved in the operations and all the players in the regional transplant network – said the general manager of the Cannizzaro company, Salvatore Giuffrida – each donation is a sign of trust towards the hospital and the health service: thinking of the thousands of people awaiting transplantation in Italy, this can only be the best message for the National Day of Organ and Tissue Donation, which is celebrated on Sunday 11 April ». A cornea removal was also performed in the same hospital last week.
