CHALLAND-SAINT-VICTOR

When legality wins, it is the whole community that wins. A message repeated several times last Saturday in Challand-Saint-Victor, on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the Maison du Tsan, in the hamlet of Verval 13. The structure is housed in a building sold to the Municipality in 2017 by the National Agency for administration and destination of assets seized and confiscated from organized crime and then restructured to become the good of all.

“It is a small building that had been bought by people residing outside the valley who would have made it a second home – explains the mayor, Michel Savin -. The owners were convicted of mafia crimes; hence the request made to our administration by the National Agency for the management of assets confiscated from organized crime, headed by the Ministry of the Interior, to receive it free of charge. Request that was accepted. At the time, the building was little more than a semi-renovated ruin ». The Municipality has decided to include it in its real estate assets and in 2019, with an investment of 155 thousand euros, it has provided for its radical restructuring. The works were completed in 2020. It has now been given on free loan to the Tsan Sports Association of Challand Saint-Victor which involves many young people from the country who are passionate about this popular sport (vaguely reminiscent of baseball), promoting the values sport, cultural tradition and social life. “The purposes of this type of goods must be of a social nature – highlights Michel Savin – and so it was”.

The structure is spread over about 100 square meters of surface divided over three levels: on the ground floor there is a laboratory for the preparation of tools for the game of tsan, on the first floor there is a large meeting room and toilets, while in the mezzanine there are a room and a kitchen. Also obtained some parking spaces for users. A plaque on the outside highlights the important significance of this important operation of restitution of a property confiscated from crime and the underworld, through the words “Building donated to the community”. The highest authorities were present at the inaugural ceremony led by the President of the Regional Council Alberto Bertin and the Chief of Police of Aosta, Ivo Morelli. Amelio Ambrosi
