Chaos on Avenida Sur de Pereira

Inhabitants of the Futuro Bajo de Pereira have been protesting since the early hours of the day in different areas of the Ciudadela Cuba, demanding their rights, the delays in aid and requesting the presence of the city’s mayor, Mauricio Salazar, to attend to the claims and provide a timely solution for affected families.

The fire in Futuro Bajo occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 1 and consumed more than 100 houses, leaving more than 150 families homeless.

The protests have caused vehicular chaos in that area of Pereira. Users of the Megabus mass transportation have been unable to move since there are no articulated buses that transport them from Cuba to the center of Pereira. The company has already stated the following: «We inform our users that at this time, due to a demonstration by the residents of the sector, there is a blockade at the height of the San Fernando station in both directions. “The tank exchanger is left without service.”

The road enabled by the company to transport users is Avenida 30 de Agosto by Mercasa,

One of the areas blocked by the protests is Avenida la Independencia, where residents indicate that the house where they lived was consumed by more than 50%. The affected person indicates that her husband, in addition to losing his house, also lost his job and they have not seen aid from the mayor’s office.

The closed roads are: San Fernando Cuba, Avenida La Independencia (La Divisa entrance) and Glorieta Corales.
