Neiva Health Authorities have launched a call to the community to intensify preventive measures against dengue.

The incidence of the mosquito that transmits this disease has reached worrying levels, particularly in communes 2, 6, 8 and 9, triggering an intervention strategy with the active collaboration of the population.

Until epidemiological week 52 of the year 2023, Neiva has registered an accumulated of 2,210 cases of dengue, between confirmed and probable. This alarming figure is broken down into 1,558 cases of dengue without warning signs, with 1,436 confirmed and 122 probable; 593 cases of dengue with warning signs, of which 572 are confirmed and 21 probable; In addition, 58 cases of severe dengue, with 53 confirmed by laboratory and 4 probable, and an unfortunate mortality confirmed by dengue.

The most affected population is boys and girls up to 11 years old.and the situation remains as a type II outbreak with an increasing trend in the number of cases. Faced with this reality, the Secretary of Health, María Janneth Cadena Peña, issued an emphatic call to all residents of Neiva, urging them to take crucial preventive measures.

«The greatest impact is observed in the child population, and we continue in a type II outbreak area with a tendency to increase the number of cases. For this reason, we call on all Neivans to remember that the mosquito reproduces in clean water. It is essential to take special care with water tanks, properly wash swimming pools and destroy any place that could serve as a breeding ground for the dengue-transmitting mosquito,” said the health secretary.

Health Authorities continue to implement preventive actions in each of the neighborhoods where a greater number of cases have been registered.
