Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, July 10th – President Xi Jinping announced on the afternoon of July 10th that China and the Solomon Islands have officially established a comprehensive strategic partnership. The announcement came during a meeting with Solomon Islands Prime Minister Sogavare at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

President Xi Jinping emphasized the strong friendship and brotherhood between China and the Solomon Islands. He praised the progress made in the two countries’ friendly cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The relationship between the two countries has become a model of solidarity and cooperation, setting an example for developing countries of different sizes. President Xi Jinping stated that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands aligns with international trends and serves the fundamental interests of both peoples. He expressed China’s willingness to deepen strategic communication, enhance cooperation in various fields, and promote the long-term development of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

China highly appreciates the Solomon Islands’ adherence to the one-China principle and supports their efforts to safeguard sovereignty, security, and development interests. President Xi Jinping highlighted China’s commitment to running its own affairs well and contributing to global development and international order. He expressed China’s readiness to share the opportunities brought by Chinese-style modernization and strengthen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. China will also support more Chinese enterprises to invest in the Solomon Islands and provide assistance without any political strings attached.

President Xi Jinping outlined China’s policy on Pacific island countries, emphasizing the importance of respecting their sovereignty, independence, cultural traditions, and unity. China supports the implementation of the “Blue Pacific 2050 Strategy” to build a peaceful, harmonious, safe, inclusive, and prosperous blue ocean. Acknowledging the challenges faced by Pacific islands due to climate change, China is committed to strengthening cooperation in meteorological services, disaster prevention and reduction, and clean energy to support sustainable development.

Prime Minister Sogavare expressed the Solomon Islands’ confidence in the decision to establish diplomatic relations with China. He commended China’s Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, recognizing President Xi Jinping’s vision and leadership. The Solomon Islands firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is eager to enhance high-level exchanges and cooperation with China in various areas. Prime Minister Sogavare pledged to jointly tackle global challenges, including climate change, and promote the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic partnership. Additionally, he emphasized the Solomon Islands’ opposition to actions aimed at containing China’s development.

Following the meeting, both countries issued a joint statement on establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development in the new era. Wang Yi and Wang Xiaohong were present at the meeting.
