China-Laos Railway Celebrates One Year Anniversary with 700,000 Passengers

On the first anniversary of the launch of the China-Laos Railway international passenger train, a total of 700,000 passengers have been carried.

According to China News Service, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway Group) reported that on the first anniversary of the launch of the China-Laos Railway international passenger train, a total of 700,000 passengers have been sent, including cross-border trains from 87 countries and regions, with 180,000 passengers.

The person in charge of the International Department of the China Railway Group stated that the China-Laos Railway international passenger trains connect Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Luang Prabang, Vientiane and other cities in series, and implement a morning-to-night operation mode, facilitating international passengers to visit cultural monuments and natural sites along the route. Beijing, Harbin, Shenyang and other cities have organized China-Laos cross-border tour groups to Laos, expanding the scope of international passenger trains.

The unnamed spokesperson also mentioned that the occupancy rate of international passenger trains on the China-Laos Railway has remained high over the past year, with the highest occupancy rate in a single day reaching 100%, boosting the tourism industry in Xishuangbanna, Luang Prabang, and other cities.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the railway departments of China and Laos have added a pair of international passenger trains between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang, allowing passengers to travel between the two places on the same day by train.

The newly opened international passenger trains will operate four days a week on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, stopping at Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Mohan, Boten, Muangxai, and Luang Prabang stations. The total travel time, including railway port clearance time, is only about five hours.
