On January 17, local time, Dutch data visualization analyst Frédérik Ruys created a 3D model of Tonga’s submarine volcanoes based on survey data from the American Geophysical Society and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The model restores the picture of the volcano below the water surface of the crater of Aha Apai Island in Tongahong, where the disaster erupted. In addition, he released a 3D view of the subduction zone of the Pacific plate near the island.
