Chinese bipedal robot challenges difficult terrain even for humans

Chinese robotics company LimX Dynamics has released a video of its P1 bipedal robot successfully walking in Tanglangshan Country Park in the city of Shenzhen, as part of an open environment field test.

“The P1 successfully navigated the completely foreign nature of the forest, demonstrating exceptional control and stability after reinforcement learning, while dynamically navigating various complex terrains,” the company said in the description of the video, recently posted on YouTube.

According to the Chinese portal Techweb, the test was carried out from the foot of a mountain to its summit. Along the way, the P1 experimented with very different terrain, difficult to navigate even for humans. The test demonstrated that the robot is capable of adapting to new environments and walking freely through unknown terrain.

LimX Dynamics’ bipedal robot is part of a study that serves as an important platform for the systematic development and modular testing of reinforcement learning. It is used to advance research and iteration of basic bipedal locomotion capabilities. With RT
