Chinese Fisherman Rescued After Falling Overboard Near Matsu Beigan Island
On March 15, a Chinese fisherman was rescued after falling into the sea in the eastern waters of Matsu Beigan Island. The incident occurred after the Chinese fishing boat āMinlianyu 60911ā capsized in the waters off Dongding Island, Kinmen on the 14th, resulting in 2 deaths and 2 missing crew members.
According to reports from the Industrial Development Office of Lianjiang County, China Coast Guard vessels and ships from the China Coast Guard were immediately deployed to assist in the search and rescue operation. Additionally, the Matsu Coast Guard also dispatched patrol boats to the area to aid in the rescue efforts.
The crew member of the fishing boat was suspected to have lost his footing and fell overboard while walking along the edge of the ship at noon on the 14th. Despite efforts by the crew to rescue him, they were unsuccessful in retrieving the fisherman.
Director Lin Qingfeng of the Industrial Development Department of Lianjiang County received a notification from China late on the night of the 14th, prompting an immediate response to coordinate search and rescue efforts. Matsu Coast Patrol Captain Hong Wenquan confirmed that the Matsu Coast Guard was notified of the incident and deployed patrol boats to the scene.
The Coast Guard emphasized the importance of maritime safety and coordinated with Chinese rescue ships to expand the search area. Calls were also made to nearby fishing boats and sailing vessels to assist in the search and rescue operation, which is expected to continue for the next 72 hours.
The joint efforts of the China Coast Guard and Matsu Coast Guard have been crucial in the successful rescue of the fisherman, and they remain committed to finding the missing crew members from the capsized fishing boat.
