LONDON. British production and costume designer Tony Walton, who has designed sets and costumes for films such as “All That Jazz – The Show Begins” (1979), winning an Oscar, “Murder on the Orient Express” (1974) and “Mary Poppins” ( 1964), died at his Manhattan home at the age of 87 from complications of a stroke.

The announcement of the disappearance was given to New York Times by Emma Walton Hamilton, the daughter born of Tony Walton’s relationship with the English actress Julie Andrews. Walton and Andrews married on May 10, 1959 and divorced on May 7, 1968: over the span of almost a decade, her husband dressed the actress on every public occasion as well as creating costumes for her for the unforgettable role of the magical handyman nanny. Mary Poppins in the legendary Disney film. The two had met on the set of “The Julie Andrews Show,” where Walton was costume designer. In 1991 Walton remarried screenwriter Genevieve LeRoy, who was at her bedside at the time of her death.

Born on October 24, 1934 in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey (England), the production designer brought a broad visual imagination for over half a century to the stages of Broadway, where he arrived in the mid-1950s. In more than 50 Broadway productions, he has collaborated with directors such as Mike Nichols, Bob Fosse and Jerry Zaks, winning three Tony Awards for “Pippin”, “The House of Blue Leaves” and “Guys and Dolls” and garnering thirteen nominations.
