Citizens alert the local authority to houses in danger of collapsing in the city of Zagora

The resident of the Tansitta Ikhshaa neighborhood in the Zagora province sent an appeal to the governor of the region and the relevant authorities in order to find a solution to the problem of the houses that are about to collapse. Note that the neighborhood is considered a “historic palace,” and the authorities previously counted about 200 buildings in it that are at risk of collapse.

Hespress visited the area, which includes residents who all dream of decent housing that does not threaten their lives. In this context, a housewife whom Hespress met in the area said: “I live in this house that is on the verge of collapse with my husband and children, and we cannot change it, so we have no help.” My husband does not work, and we have complained several times to no avail.”

The same spokeswoman continued: “Every day a part of the house falls. The authorities had previously come and said that they could help us with rent, but only for a period of 15 days, and after that we would manage our affairs, but we have no help, as our conditions are very miserable and we cannot afford the rental duties.”

The complainant added with regret: “We are afraid that houses will fall on our heads at every moment.” The buildings surrounding us are all in danger of collapsing. Those who could have left, while we continue to live in constant danger… We demand a quick solution so that a day does not come when the house falls on our heads.”

Another complainant, who was a victim of the collapse of her house years ago, leaving four members of her family dead and causing physical damage to her, said: “The house previously fell on our heads in 2008, killing four people from my family… and ever since it fell, we have been waiting for compensation without the slightest intervention.”

The same spokeswoman continued: “When the house collapsed, the authorities helped us to rent it for only 15 days, but when our debts accumulated, we left and returned to our house after we restored it with our own efforts, and we remained here.” She added: “We just want safe housing.” We don’t want anything else.”

For his part, Muhammad Lamin Labyad, an association activist in the region, said: “A house collapsed in 2008, leaving four dead. Following this incident, the authorities conducted a census that concluded that there were 200 homes at risk of collapsing, while the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Housing purchased two hundred plots from a company at a symbolic price for the benefit of this oppressed population, which is approximately twelve thousand dirhams, but since then and until this moment these have not been delivered. “Stains.”

In a statement to Hespress, Labyad addressed an appeal to the governor of the region to “hand over these spots to these oppressed people who live under the roofs of houses that could fall on their heads at any moment.”

The same spokesman added: “We hope that this file will see the light, because people are living in terror, and the recent earthquake has increased their terror,” also directing an appeal to the Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Ministry of Tourism; “Because the matter concerns one of the historical palaces in the urban area of the city of Zagora, which is more than four hundred years old, and it should be restored like the rest of the palaces in the region in order for it to become a tourist destination,” he said.
