Classes and order returned to Caño Chiquito in Paz de Ariporo, after threats to teachers

Families and especially students from the Caño Chiquito town center in the municipality of Paz de Ariporo, returned to classes.

The suspension of school activities at the Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento Educational Institution was due to a series of threatening and extortionate calls that both teachers and other residents received from prisons in the country.

Regarding the matter, on February 26, the Government Secretariat held a security council in the territory that had the active participation of the department’s security forces, Police, Army, Sectional Directorate of Prosecutors, Colombian Migration, and the Ombudsman’s Office.

The council was led by the Secretary of the Government, Héctor Julio Ramos Prieto and was also accompanied by the Secretary of the Government of Peace of Ariporo, José Neobán Calderón.

The entire teaching staff presented themselves to the entire student community. Due to the threats, the 4 teachers had decided to be absent since February 24 of this year.
