‘I have to take care of the post Covid and I have already done many quarantines’
(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 27 – Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has hinted that he could desert the historic United Nations climate conference scheduled in Glasgow next November. “I haven’t made up my mind yet …. but it’s another trip overseas …. and I’ve spent a lot of time in quarantine,” he said in an interview with the West Australia newspaper.
The COP26 Summit, which will be held from 1 to 12 November in Scotland under the presidency of Great Britain and in partnership with Italy, will be the most important global meeting on the climate crisis in recent years. Australia, one of the world‘s leading exporters of coal and gas, is one of 200 countries expected to present an updated plan for emissions cuts between now and 2030 at the meeting. But Morrison’s government continues to make no commitment. and not to outline a precise agency to achieve zero emissions in 2050, despite the fact that the country is the most polluting in relation to the number of inhabitants.
“I have to focus on Covid. Australia will reopen in those days, there will be many issues to be addressed”, said the Australian premier. (HANDLE).
