In his speech in Davos, President Gustavo Petro pointed out that Colombia has been defending, since its government, the possibility of solving the climate crisis through a leap in the conception of humanity vis-à-vis nature, vis-à-vis its planet.
By reiterating that we must move from speech to practice, he indicated that this implies undoubtedly profound political changes, transformations of society and its conception, for this reason, he assured that “Colombia, for example, has decided not to contract more oil exploration, gas and coal.”
The head of state’s statements occurred during the inauguration of Casa Colombia in Davos, within the framework of the World Economic Forum, where he reflected on the tensions that the world is experiencing, including the climate crisis, which he described as “ the mother of all problems.”
He reiterated that Colombia’s decision not to explore more carbides in general is made “as a demonstration effect on the need we have for coal in our world economy,” which “would be much more complex in countries like the United States, those of the European Union or China.”
