Covid: 156 thousand infections at work and doubling in the second wave

You exceed altitude 150mila for infections at work from Covid: the data is contained in the latest Inail report updated at the end of February according to which the reports of fatal cases since the beginning of the pandemic are 499. The report does not take into account workers not insured by Inail such as general practitioners and non-employee pharmacists.

A quarter of the injuries are due to Covid

The reports of contagion arrived at the institute are 156.766, about a quarter of the total number of accident reports registered since January 2020 and 5,4% of the national infected. The “second wave” had a greater impact on work than the first: the period October 2020-February 2021 affects the 64,4% on the total number of Covid accident reports, i.e. double that of the quarter March-May 2020 (32.2%). The figure is reversed looking at the fatal cases with over two thirds of the deaths at work for Covid recorded in the first wave (the 67,8%). The cases of contagion at work in the most reported in February are 8.891, while the fatal cases are more than in January 38.

Women are the most infected

Women are more than two thirds of those infected at work (the 69,6%) but less than a fifth (the 17%) of the dead. The average age since the beginning of the epidemic is 46 years old for both sexes for infections and of 59 years old for fatal cases. The 44,6% of the complaints comes from the North West with Lombardy which alone concentrates over a quarter of Covid accidents at work (the 26,5%). The category most affected in recent months has been that of health technicians with the 39% of complaints (in three cases out of four are women), the82,8% of which related to nurses, followed by social health workers (il 19,3%) and doctors (9%).

The average age of the dead 59 years

Looking at the fatal cases the complaints have been 499, for more than a third (the 37,7%) referring to April. Overall i almost 500 fatal cases are about one third of the total deaths at work reported from January 2020 to February 2021 and have an incidence of 0,5% compared to the total of national deaths from Covid. If the average age of deaths at work due to Covid infection is 59 years old, the 71,4% of the total complaints on fatal cases concerns the range between 50 e i 64 years old, while the 19% it refers to people with over 64 years old.
