Covid, two high-risk regions. Intensive care is on the verge of a critical level

MILAN – In the last week of monitoring on infections from Covid-19 two regions are classified as high risk, 18 regions are classified as moderate risk. Among these, five Regions are at high probability of progression at high risk, while for one Region the classification is at low risk. These are the data from the control room gathered this morning and made known by the ISS.

There was a sharp increase in the number of new cases not associated with transmission chains (62,669 vs 42,675 in the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing activity is decreasing (27% vs 31% last week). The percentage of cases detected through the appearance of symptoms is increasing (45% vs 43%), while the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities also increases (28% vs 26%).

The occupancy rate of beds in intensive care by Covid patients is 10.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as of 23 December), on the verge of the critical threshold, against the previous figure of 9.6% (as of 16 December) . The employment rate in medical areas nationwide rose to 13.9% (as of 23 December) against 12.1% on 16 December. This indicator is still below the critical threshold.
