Government seeks freedom for detainees in national strike protests

by admin

The Minister of Justice, Néstor Osuna, in the middle of his intervention at the “Government with the People” event in Cali, spoke of a new strategy to seek the freedom of young people detained for different reasons within the framework of the national strike or social outbreak .

According to the minister, they are in conversation with the attorney general, Luz Adriana Camargo, for the construction of a guideline that determines that acts within social protests are protests and not terrorism.

Osuna even said that it was a plan that they had been working on with former prosecutor Francisco Barbosa but it was not achieved.

“While Prosecutor Barbosa was in office, it was impossible to convince him that a guideline that he changed in the prosecutor’s office, which said that acts of social protest are protest and not terrorism, should be applied. He did not want to apply it, he repealed it and that is why no progress could be made,” said Osuna, who explained that with this initiative the detainees could be released from prison.

To this extent, the president asked the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, to create a “truth commission” around the events that occurred during the social outbreak in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

“Obviously we cannot replace the judicial investigation, but we can carry out an academic exploration of the events that happened here to establish the memory of the city,” Petro pointed out.
