The new official of the Ministry of Equality is a biochemist who graduated from the University of Havana, a specialist in feminist and gender studies.

The Directorate for Women in Paid Sexual Activities of the Ministry of Equality and Equity is attached to the Vice Ministry of Women and one of the most important functions of this agency will be to adopt, design and implement guidelines and care routes to guarantee the rights of women in paid sexual activities in any of their forms.

Charlotte Callejas is a human rights defender, with social and political processes in Colombia and Latin America; She is a transfeminist and has worked in the public-private and public sectors of the State.

In the public sector, she led LGBTIQ, women and gender equality policies, a plan to combat human trafficking, a plan to combat Escnna, affirmative actions and social services in the Social Integration and Health Secretariats of the Bogotá Mayor’s Office; She was the Bogotá regional director of the DPS and was part of the gender and diversity advisory team of the Ministry of the Interior office.

In the private sector, she has stood out as project and research coordinator for the Colombian League to Fight AIDS, leading HIV prevention projects, comprehensive care for people living with HIV, studies and research on HIV seroprevalence. She comes to the Ministry of Equality and Equity to contribute all her experience.

“I want to send a message to women sex workers, to the victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation: our commitment to be able to listen to them, to be able to build from a rights-based approach, a differential gender approach, all institutional offerings and possibilities and opportunities so that women sex workers who want to leave that context towards other life scenarios can do so. But, above all, those who want to remain can also do so with a guarantee of rights with all the dignity that they deserve and deserve,” said Schneider, after assuming the Directorate of Women in Paid Sexual Activities.

Charlotte Schneider took the oath before the general secretary of the Ministry of Equality and Equity, Patricia González Vasco. At the end of the inauguration ceremony, director Charlotte Schneider listened to representatives of women’s organizations and sent a message to those who have suffered sexual exploitation.

“For women victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, I reiterate my commitment to building bridges from the institutional framework with other administrative sectors and, of course, the commitment to prevention and activating channels that also have to do with complaints. and the duty to report, which as a State we have a process for them,” Schneider concluded.
