Culture for everyone – with this idea the Ruhr Festival was founded 78 years ago. However, the cultural folk festival on May 1st has only existed since the 1970s. Since then, the first move of the German Trade Union Confederation has been through the city of Recklinghausen to the Festpielhaus.
Family program in and at the festival hall
The speeches of the union representatives are given there. This year it will be Christine Behle, the deputy federal chairwoman of Verdi. From midday there is a family program around the festival hall with local bands, with readings and classical concerts also in the festival hall.
