Lots of people in the church of San Martino and teammates with the jersey of the Italian mountain bike championships
CHIES D’ALPAGO. The team jersey for the farewell to Gianluca Barattin. The one produced on the occasion of the Italian mountain bike championships in 2019. The friends of the Chies d’Alpago cycling company wanted to greet the 49-year-old, who lost his life, falling from a plant in Pian Formosa. A sports and volunteer companion, who donated organs by the will of him and his family.
There were many in the church of San Martino for the religious service officiated by Don Moreno Baldo, including cyclists, Alpine troops and simple acquaintances: “I cannot forget all the trips and all the experiences around the world that we have done together”, underlines the president of SC Chies, Paolo Zanon, «we went to see how the organizers of races much more important than ours worked, to learn something and put it into practice. Gianluca was very curious, as well as being a tough guy and always ready to help those in need. We found ourselves in so many to give him a last farewell and we understood how smart he was once more, when we learned that he had donated the organs ».
In his homily, Don Moreno started from the night in which Gianluca Barattin was not found, after a wild boar hunt: “A night between feelings of anxiety and hope for the cousin and uncle, who did not know where Gianluca and for this they were worried, but at the same time they hoped for a different ending “, said the parish priest,” he was a very active man, who knew how to do good not only in the world of sport, but also of volunteering. When we approach the anniversary of Pentecost, that is the descent of the Holy Spirit on Mary and on the apostles gathered in the Upper Room, I like to think that the same Holy Spirit can help us in identifying the star of Gianluca in heaven “.
Gianluca Barattin’s body was cremated and the ashes rest in the cemetery of Chies d’Alpago.
