Regarding this issue, Wei Rongping, director of the Wolong Shenshuping Base of the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center, introduced:Although pandas were born abroad, their nationalities are all Chinese, and they will return to China after the age of 2.
Last year, the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center actively carried out international cooperation and guided zoos in Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia. A total of 3 litters and 4 cubs were bred, and the birth survival rate was still quite high.
Before the epidemic, during the breeding season, we would send experts to the cooperative units to work with colleagues to solve the technical problems of giant panda breeding.
However, after the outbreak of the epidemic in 2020 and 2021, it was impossible to send people to the scene. We innovatively formed an expert group online to provide real-time guidance. This guidance group has experts from different professions, including breeding experts, breeding experts, and veterinary experts. We jokingly call it “cloud breeding”.
In addition, data show that as of October 2011,There are 333 giant pandas in captivity in the country, while there are less than 1,600 wild giant pandas in the world.
