Draghi, companies and governments do more on gender equality: “Italy supports the fight against inequalities”

by admin

“We need to demand more information from companies on the gender pay gap. Companies should ensure that a sufficient number of qualified women are pre-selected for applications. Governments can do more to increase the number of women in science and related rapidly growing fields. ‘ Prime Minister Mario Draghi said this in a message to the Third Plenary Session of the G20 Empower, which took place today.

“G20 Empower is an important forum for addressing gender inequalities: as the G20 Presidency, Italy fully supports this effort,” he stressed.

According to Draghi, “gender inequalities in our societies are significant. Women are heads of state or government in only 22 countries; only 21.9% of all ministers in the world are women. We are still a long way from achieving real gender equality. Governments and businesses must work together to overcome these disparities: the former by strengthening childcare services, businesses by finding ways to adapt their workplaces to the needs of working mothers ”.

“The decisions we make today determine how our society will evolve in the future. It is up to us to give power to a new generation of women and to build a better and fairer world ”, concluded the premier. The ‘G20 Empower’ is the working group that, under the aegis of the G20, brings together representatives of the private sector and representatives of the governments of member countries to promote the empowerment of women in leadership positions. The results of the work of the three plenary sessions will be shared during the Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment scheduled for August 26th.
