Drummond took advantage of 82% of the waste generated in its operations

Maintaining its environmental commitment, during 2023, Drummond Ltd. took advantage of 82% of the waste generated in its mining and port operations, that is, it recovered 24,930 tons of waste of the 30,579 tons generated, through its Comprehensive Waste Management Program. Waste (PGIR).

It is important to highlight that 54% of the waste used (16,574 tons) corresponded to non-hazardous waste, such as: scrap metal, wood, cardboard, plastic, glass and used tires; while the remaining 27% (8,356 tons) corresponded to hazardous waste, such as: oily solids, used oils, lighting, batteries, soil affected with hydrocarbons, and electrical and electronic devices.

For waste management, Drummond has 341 “clean points” distributed throughout its mining and port operations, which are identified by a color code. The company daily carries out the collection process for classification and temporary storage, for subsequent commercialization and valuation by an external environmental manager.

“The results obtained reaffirm the commitment of employees and contractors to comply with the environmental standards established for the adequate segregation and classification of waste, in line with the environmental strategies established by the company to maximize the use of waste generated in its operations,” said Carlos Contreras, lead environmental management supervisor at Drummond Ltd.
