The Government of Ecuador will not give you safe passage to former Vice President Jorge Glas, once the Government of Mexico granted him political asylum this Friday, April 5, 2024.
“For Ecuador it is legally evident that the concession is not legal of diplomatic asylum” and adds that “it is not applicable” within the framework of the current conventions.
The Foreign Ministry specified that in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Diplomatic Asylum of 1954 and the Convention on Political Asylum of 1933, the Government of Mexico has the obligation to deliver to Glas to be brought to justice.
He regretted that Mexico has not considered obligations contained in other conventions to cooperate to prevent and combat acts of corruption in the exercise of public functions.
