In El Salvador, the year 2023 closed with a historic milestone in the field of intellectual property, with a notable increase in trademark applications and deposits of copyright works.
According to data provided by the Intellectual Property Registry, a total of 12,879 distinctive signs were registered, which represents an increase of 3.6% compared to 2022.
Of these applications, 11,273 correspond to trademarks, 1,340 to trade names and emblems, and 266 to other distinctive signs. This significant increase reflects the continued growth in intellectual property protection in various economic sectors.
In addition, for the first time, 13 national patent applications were received, demonstrating a growing interest in innovation and the protection of industrial property in the country.
Regarding renewals, a significant increase was also observed, with a total of 9,265 renewals in 2023, representing an increase of 12.5% āācompared to the previous year.
These data reflect the growing value that companies and creators place on the protection of their intangible assets, thus promoting innovation and economic development in the country.
