Henan Province Sees Heavy Snowfall Leading to Quick Response from Officials
Since January 15, many places in Henan Province have experienced the first round of heavy snowfall in 2024. The maximum cumulative precipitation in Sanmenxia City is 20.3 mm, and the snow depth is 16 cm; the maximum precipitation in Anyang City is 14.1 mm, and the local snow depth is 10 cm; the cumulative precipitation in Weihui City is 11.1 mm, and the snow depth is 8 cm. Faced with this snowfall, the meteorological departments quickly mobilized other relevant departments to ensure safety and smooth operations across the affected areas.
In order to keep traffic and roads safe and smooth, the Anyang Meteorological Department issued warnings for road icing, snowstorms, and took measures to ensure public travel safety. Meanwhile, the Hongqiqu Airport in Anyang City, which was facing insufficient experience with rain and snow, strengthened discussions with the meteorological department and formulated a flight plan based on their forecasts to ensure flight safety.
In terms of facility agriculture, the meteorological department acted quickly to provide production guidance to major vegetable growers in Jiangqu Village and ensured that the vegetables did not suffer any damage during the snowfall. This proactive approach helped stabilize the supply of agricultural and sideline products in major markets.
The snowfall also brought great challenges to the operation of the power grid. The Weihui Power Supply Company of the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company quickly launched an emergency response to the rain, snow, and freezing disaster, organizing maintenance personnel to inspect the snow and ice covering of substations and transmission lines.
As a result of the proactive measures taken by the relevant departments in response to the heavy snowfall, all roads are operating smoothly, flights at Anyang Hongqiqu Airport have taken off and landed normally, rail transportation and highway stations are operating normally, and power supply in Weihui City has been stable.
The joint efforts and quick response from the meteorological department and other relevant authorities have ensured the safety, supply, and people’s livelihood during this round of heavy snowfall in Henan Province.
