Essen Youth Welfare Office: The name “Ferienspatz” was criminally abused

Essen criminals are said to have appeared as “Ferien Spatz eV” in order to sexually abuse children during fictitious leisure activities. Police are investigating.

The Bielefeld public prosecutor’s office and an investigative commission from the Bielefeld police are investigating the suspicion of possible sexual abuse of children after contact was made via an online service called “Ferien Spatz eV”. This is reported by the Essen city administration. The reason: The youth welfare office in the city of Essen has had a holiday program with the same name for decades.

“We are deeply shocked that people with a criminal background have tried to gain the trust of families using the name of our holiday offer,” explains Carsten Bluhm, head of the Essen city youth welfare office. “We sincerely hope that this was not successful.”

The club’s website has now been blocked

The investigators assume that the club’s website, which has now been blocked, is a fake offer using false personal details. The youth welfare office of the city of Essen is asking the citizens of Essen to support the investigative work of the Bielefeld police and public prosecutor’s office.

Offers with advertising flyers about alleged holiday activities were also advertised via social media, especially in groups for single parents. They led to the fake website. The lure there was with alleged stays in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Ruhr area and the Sauerland, Saxony and Thuringia. There is a suspicion that further contacts than those previously known may have taken place.

The city of Essen asks to support the Bielefeld police’s investigation

According to the Essen Youth Welfare Office, the following questions arise as part of the investigation: Who had contact with Ferien Spatz eV? Who has or had children registered there? Who accepted the offer of care? Who knows people who have had contact?
Who can provide information about where this offer was advertised on social media?

The police investigators emphasize that their measures relate exclusively to the above-mentioned, fake website of the Ferien Spatz eV association, which is supposedly based in Bochum. Under no circumstances are serious offers from cities or youth welfare offices with a similar name meant.
