The Supreme Court also returned the papers for extortion to the owner of the Verolengo car wash to whom, with a ruling confirmed on appeal, he had been ordered with the mafia method not to accept any more assignments from Autovip.

The Supreme Court upheld the appeal of the lawyers Antonino Napoli and Giuseppe Germanò of the Palmi court, who argued that the decision on these grounds was illogical, while they rejected it for everything else.

The Gioffrè brothers are originally from Amato di Taurianova and linked by kinship ties with the Gioffrè di Seminara, being the nephews of the deceased Vincenzo Domenico Gioffrè (called Ringo) and cousins ​​of the Gioffrè accused in the «Artemisia» trial.

According to the judges, the group of people to which the two Gioffrè would have belonged would not have enjoyed a criminal reputation and consequently could not have generated the force of intimidation typical of the ‘Ndrangheta clubs.

The Court of Appeal had rejected the appeal of the Public Prosecutor against the acquittal for the crime of association and, on the other hand, had condemned the two Gioffrè brothers for the crimes of extortion aggravated by the mafia method and Francesco alone for arms.

The Court of Cassation also accepted the appeal of the Attorney General against the acquittal of the Turin Court of Appeal for the accused Antonio Guerra and Luciano Ilacqua for the crime of aggravated extortion against Antonio Piperato, and Antonio Guerra for the crime of fictitious header .

The applicants were, in addition to the Attorney General and the two Gioffrè brothers, Antonio Guerra, Francesco Grosso, Francesco Ilacqua and Luciano Ilacqua. In the Panamera trial, Chivasso, Leinì and Settimo Torinese were the civil parties.
