In a resounding blow to drug trafficking, Colombian authorities, in cooperation with Panamanian security forces, have managed to seize a total of two tons of cocaine in recent operations. This most recent success was recorded in the port of Cartagena de Indias, where two tons of the drug, valued at approximately 2.5 billion dollars, were discovered camouflaged within a shipment of cocoa destined for Belgium.
The Colombian National Police reported that the seizure prevented the circulation of approximately 205 million doses of cocaine, underscoring the significant impact of this action in the fight against drug trafficking. This operation joins other successful efforts, such as the one carried out in Santa Isabel, in collaboration with the Panamanian authorities, and another in the department of Valle del Cauca, where an additional volume of the illicit substance was confiscated.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro praised the work of the security forces in these operations, highlighting the country’s commitment to the fight against organized crime. Petro emphasized the importance of these actions to weaken criminal structures and capture those responsible for these illicit activities.
According to data provided by the Police, so far in 2024, more than 89 tons of cocaine have been seized throughout the country, which demonstrates the continuous effort and commitment of the Colombian authorities in the fight against drug trafficking.
The Colombian Ministry of Defense has reaffirmed its determination to continue these coordinated efforts to effectively combat drug trafficking and protect the security and well-being of Colombian citizens and the international community.
