The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced the launch of the third round and second batch of central ecological and environmental protection inspections, with a focus on river basins and provinces. Seven inspection teams will be deployed to seven provinces, including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, and Yunnan, for approximately one month.

The inspection teams will be overseeing the implementation of Xi Jinping’s ecological civilization thoughts, major decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee, as well as the ecological environment protection responsibilities of relevant governmental departments. Additionally, they will be monitoring the progress of ecological and environmental protection work, with a specific focus on issues related to the Yangtze River Economic Belt basin and each province’s unique ecological challenges.

Key areas of focus for the inspection teams include green and low-carbon development, pollution control measures, protection of natural reserves and coastlines, and the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. They will also be evaluating the implementation of previous inspection recommendations, as well as addressing any outstanding ecological and environmental concerns raised by the public.

During their time in each province, the inspection teams will be available to receive feedback and reports on environmental protection issues through dedicated contact numbers and postal mailboxes. The Office of the Central Leading Group for Ecological and Environmental Protection Inspection has also emphasized the importance of implementing central government decisions accurately and efficiently, while avoiding overly harsh accountability measures that may burden grassroots organizations.

Overall, the goal of these inspections is to ensure that ecological and environmental protection measures are being effectively implemented at the provincial level, in line with national policies and regulations. By addressing key environmental challenges and holding local authorities accountable, the central government aims to promote sustainable development and environmental conservation across China.
