5 people are trapped in a cave in Slovenia. Local media report this. It concerns a family and two tourist guides. Rescuers were able to bring them some food and a tent, but they were unable to bring them to the surface. The five are trapped due to heavy rainfall, which suddenly caused the water level in the cave to rise.

The group left on Saturday morning to explore the Krizna Cave, a tourist attraction 50 kilometers south of the capital Ljubljana. Since they did not return at the expected time, a team of divers went looking for them in the evening and were able to locate them approximately 2 kilometers from the entrance to the 8 kilometer long cave.

The five adults are sheltering in a dry shelter and are in good shape, rescuers told the press. After a three-hour journey, they were able to give them a tent, warm clothing, food and medicine.

“Once the water level drops, it will be possible to evacuate them quickly,” said team leader Walter Zakrajsek, without being able to say more at this stage. If the current situation were to continue, rescuers plan to provide them with what they need every twelve hours.

Krizna Cave is one of the most important tourist attractions in Slovenia. The cave has 22 emerald-colored underground lakes that can be visited by small boat. The Central European country has more than 14,000 mapped caves.
