Family in difficulty near the Blue Grotto: rescuers lower parents and children with ropes

Father, mother and two children aged 4 and 6 found themselves stuck under a rock face after climbing an escarpment

Borgo Valbelluna. Around 1 pm, the Alpine Rescue of Belluno was alerted for a family from Borgo Valbelluna in difficulty in the area of the Castle of Zumelle. Father, mother and two children of 4 and 6 years, had left Villa di Villa, in Mel, going up the course of the Terche stream and then moved on to the Rui stream that leads to the Blue Grotto.

Arrived at a certain point, however, blocked by puddles of water, the hikers moved from the shore, trying to go up along an escarpment, until they found themselves stuck under a wall of 15 meters, unable to retrace their steps.

Fortunately, from that point with telephone coverage they raised the alarm, providing fairly precise coordinates, even if the rescuers arrived in the area were no longer able to contact them. From the directions, the team managed to reach the family and, after having equipped the belay, one at a time lowered them, first for 60 meters, then after moving further to the side for another 20 meters. Once on the shore, rescuers and family went back to the Castle of Zumelle.
