Farewell to Paolo Mattarollo: the car dealership and great music are the passions of a lifetime

Everyone called him “the accountant”, An appellation that has accompanied him since his youth, when he graduated from Pius X Episcopal College of Treviso. Born in 1936 in via Riccati in Treviso, Mattarollo has worked with his family of origin, since the 1970s, in the sale of bicycles and motorcycles. In 1974 the turning point with the entry into the automobile sector, with the foundation of the car dealership which is still located today in Villorbaalong the Pontebbana.

“The accountant” is remembered by everyone as a scrupulous, attentive, concrete and visionary man: he has always shown love for his work and for his territory, so much so that he has handed down the same passion to his children, Michela and Gian Paolo. “He has always been an extremely curious person – his daughter Michela remembers him – curiosity has always pushed him beyond his limits. She has always also loved doing adventure travel, not “comfortable”: Afghanistan, the silk road, Iraq, was insatiable with culture and adventure ». A strong character, «he is not always affable, indeed – his daughter still remembers – could also be irritating, but he always hit the point even if he hurt a little. His employees all remember him, left its mark. He was very charismatic ».

Paolo Mattarollo was also a forerunner at the martketing level, “among the first entrepreneurs to invest not only in traditional advertising in newspapers or on the radio, but also by paying artists and offering shows to the citizens – says Michela – Now it is usual practice, once it was not: he said that culture had to be for everyone. He made concerts in church, open to everyone by definition ». Stubborn, courageous, dedicated to work, a great lover of classical music, active in social and city life, there are many events and music festivals organized by him. For the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of his company, Mattarollo organized a concert which saw the participation of the great violinist Uto Ughi.
