The Office of Social Prosperity and the Special Administrative Unit for Migration are advancing in the Articulation of the Comprehensive Plan for Attention and Accompaniment to Darién (PIAAD), a joint work to strengthen the actions of the Government of Change in the regions of the country where the phenomenon occurs. migration, and as a comprehensive and coordinated response to the needs of the communities in the Urabá region of Antioquia.
In response to a directive from President Gustavo Petro, Gustavo Bolívar, director of Social Prosperity, and Fernando García, director of Migration Colombia, efforts are already being made to serve this region, prioritized for having a victim and vulnerable population, both national and migrant.
Urabá is the recipient of the migrant population that passes through this region to transit through the Darién, impacting the municipalities of Turbo, Apartadó and Necoclí, where there is a greater concentration of the migrant population. According to Migración Colombia, nearly 540,000 immigrants crossed the Darién last year, doubling the figure for 2022.
“This represents a humanitarian drama. Because regardless of whether the person is Chinese, Vietnamese, Ecuadorian, Venezuelan or Colombian, they are human beings and must be treated as such. There are no illegal human beings. “All human beings are legal.” said the director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar, during the working group held in Necoclí, Antioquia.
“And just as we would like our compatriots in other countries to be treated, we must treat people from other countries who, unfortunately, try to pursue a dream that has not been fulfilled in their territories,” Bolívar concluded.
Within the framework of the projected inter-administrative agreement, Social Prosperity will support the area with popular enterprises: migratory guides, tourist guides, ecological stores in migratory passage, boat associations, fishing enterprises, food enterprises, farmers, gardening; trade in port and environmental security implements.
