A Dutch family’s holiday ended in a tragedy in the parking lot of a supermarket near Munich. A father ran over his two-year-old son while parking, and the mother and brother saw the accident happen before their eyes.

The family was traveling through Germany in their car – an electric Volkswagen ID.4 – when they stopped at the Aldi supermarket in Unterhaching, in the state of Bavaria. The mother (33) and the two sons got out of the car there. The father (36) then wanted to park the car elsewhere so that he could charge at a charging station.

“He drove out of the parking lot, but just then the toddler ran past the right side of the car and ended up under the vehicle,” said a police officer. The boy ended up under the car, but miraculously survived the accident. He was taken to hospital, where a skull fracture was diagnosed. The child is not in mortal danger, according to German media.
