Football, Champions League: Atalanta equal, Gosens signs the 2-2 at Villareal

A suffered point at the end of a match full of emotions. Atalanta win a good point away from their Champions League debut in Spain with Villarreal. 2-2 the final result at Madrigal, with the decisive goal scored by the German Robin Gosens ten minutes from the final whistle.

The match had started in the best way for Gasperini’s boys, who immediately took the lead in the sixth minute with Remo Freuler on the side of Zapata, but then they waste everything and suffer the comeback of the hosts with two goals for errors coming out of the defence. Manu Trigueros took advantage of it first in the 39th, then the Dutch Danjuma who in the 73rd minute took the champions of the last edition of the Europa League ahead. Atalanta is not there and at the 83rd they find the same with the usual Gosens. Things got even better for the Nerazzurri when Coquelin was sent off for a second yellow card a minute later. In numerical superiority the Goddess tries the forcing to bring home the victory but they do not find the goal, indeed it takes a great intervention by Musso who saves the result on a header by Gerard Moreno in full recovery.

“An equal that satisfies us a lot for the personality and at times the quality, perhaps we lacked the conviction in the final”, the comment of Giampiero Gasperini to the microphones of Sky Sport.

After the first day, Young Boys are at the head of group F, who surprisingly beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United 2-1. The next round is therefore already very important in terms of qualification, with Atalanta hosting the Swiss at the Gewiss Stadium.
