The 36th Beijing Book Ordering Fair recently came to a successful conclusion on January 13th. Hosted by the China Publishing Association and the China Books and Periodicals Distribution Industry Association, the fair was held with the theme of “Strengthening Cultural Confidence and Creating New Glory in Publishing”, thoroughly implementing Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts. During the three days, the event showcased new books, reflected publishing trends, and promoted industry development through multiple forums.

The fair featured over 400,000 books, including 186,000 new titles, marking an increase of 10,000 compared to the previous one. It acted as a barometer of China’s publishing industry, showcasing a variety of thematic, ancient, literary, and scientific publications, and children’s books. Furthermore, notable publishing trends were observed, including the increased pace of major publishing projects of ancient books, the expansion of literature and art publications, and the diversification of popular science and children’s publishing.

Moreover, the fair hosted several industry forums that have become industry brands. These forums served as professional platforms for exchanging ideas, addressing major industry issues, and discussing new trends. Among the forums, the 2024 Beijing Book Ordering Fair Forum focused on learning and implementing Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts, while the China Publishing Development Report and Publishing Industry Symposium aimed to deliver authoritative information on development and management to the industry.

Emphasizing the integration of new technologies, the fair displayed a range of digital publishing integrated products and hardware equipment. In addition, the integration of paper and digital promoted the full copyright operation of IP in the publishing industry, presenting new opportunities and growth potential.

Finally, the fair aimed to serve all demographics, promoting reading among people of all ages. From literate children to octogenarians, the fair provided diversified sharing and exchange activities, creating an offline reading scene that was irreplaceable for many attendees.
