TREVISO. Four new priests for the Treviso church will be ordained by Bishop Michele Tomasi on Saturday in the Temple of San Nicolò. Two are originally from the Marca and two come from Venetian parishes inserted in the diocesan territory of Treviso.

The four young men had arrived at the diaconate at different times, the first important step in becoming fully-fledged priests. Fr Matteo Bettiol, 26, originally from the parish of Casale sul Sile, currently in service in Zero Branco, Scandolara and Sant’Alberto, was therefore admitted to the last phase, the presbyteral ordination. The other Treviso is Don Fabio Toscan, 34, who comes from the parish of Padernello and works in Caerano S. Marco.

Don Mattia Agostini, 28, was trained in the Massanzago community and remained in the area, working in Scorzè, while Don Riccardo Marchiori, 32, comes from Spinea and lends support to the Cathedral of San Donà.

The two new priests from Treviso have different paths: Matteo Bettiol attended vocational groups in middle school and at 16 he entered the seminary: “I felt that a great desire was born in me to belong to Jesus and love others in his own way”. The first pastoral experience takes him to Nervesa, followed by the “Siloe” year dedicated to the proclamation of vocations. Today, in addition to the parish of Zero Branco, he supports the Penitentiary Chaplaincy in the Treviso Juvenile Prison while Fabio Toscan entered the seminary in 2014, after graduating from the Palladio as a surveyor and working eight years as a clerk in a construction company. In Caerano he particularly follows young people, altar boys, groups, ACR and scouts. In the last difficult period he served in the Ca ‘Foncello Hospital.

“Even in complicated times like ours, not only because of the pandemic, but because of the very rapid and tumultuous cultural and social changes, it is still possible that capable and prospective young people make their lives available to the Lord in the Church”, says the Bishop Tomasi. The ordination will be streamed on the diocese’s youtube channel. –
