CODROIPO. The Municipality of Codroipo will confer honorary citizenship on the 2nd Wing and the 313rd Acrobatic Training Group (known as Frecce Tricolori). The announcement is made by the mayor Fabio Marchetti, who thus intends to celebrate the 95 years of the Stormo and the 60 years of the national acrobatic team in the best possible way.
The delivery will take place as part of the two-day holiday, the next 18 and 19 September, scheduled at the Rivolto Air Force base. The conferment of the two seals of the city, in particular, is scheduled for Saturday 18 during the naming of the square of the Flag to General Mario Squarcina, pilot of the 2nd Wing and founder of the Frecce Tricolori.
«This is the highest honor of our city – clarifies the mayor Marchetti – which in the last forty years has been awarded only twice more, to the 5th Lancers Regiment of Novara among the institutions, and to Cardinal Jozef Glemp three physical persons. We were already ready to proceed last year, unfortunately the pandemic forced us to postpone. Now we will finally be able to give citizenship to the 313 ° Acrobatic Training Group on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, which has also been spent continuously in Rivolto, and to the 2 ° Stormo, which is the longest-lived in Italy with its 95 years. The two seals – continues Marchetti – will be made by a local craftsman, the master goldsmith Piero De Martin ».
A news welcomed by the commander of the Rivolto base, Colonel Marco Bertoli: «I am proud of this recognition that the host city will give us, with which we have always worked effectively. We consider it a sign of how close this local community is to and participates in what we do every day and the affection it feels towards us. And this fills us with satisfaction ».
Meanwhile, at the Rivolto base, preparations are underway for the Air show scheduled for 18 and 19 September. The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will also speak, thus honoring the anniversary of the Pan. Due to the Covid emergency, only 8,000 people will be able to attend the performance of the Arrows on Saturdays and the same number on Sundays (seats sold out in a few hours).
«In the face of a smaller number of spectators, the effort to define everything in detail is greater – assures Bertoli -. We are deploying all the resources available to comply in detail with the Covid protocols and guarantee maximum safety for all those present, who will only be able to attend the show while seated ». There will therefore be 8,000 chairs, suitably spaced, from which to admire the evolution of the Frecce Tricolori. Several foreign aerobatic patrols are also expected in Rivolto, as already happened during the previous birthdays of the Pan, together with the various assets of the Air Force.
