An elderly couple from Kapellen became victims of a home invasion on Saturday night. They were robbed in their home on Louis Palinckxlaan by two suspects who locked them in the basement. The victims, an 80-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man, were slightly injured. They were only freed hours later. The perpetrators were able to escape, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office confirmed.

The woman had gone to the toilet around 3am. When she went back to the bedroom, she was confronted by the two suspects. She and her partner were gagged and locked in the basement. The suspects then searched the home and then fled. It is not yet entirely clear what exactly they were able to capture. It’s probably about money.

The two victims spent the rest of the night in the basement. They were freed around 9 a.m. after a neighbor heard them calling for help. Both were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The investigation into the facts is in full swing and the perpetrators are being tracked down.
