With its 322 times of peak pace (now 280), the new single-seater will be the fastest ever in Formula E. The total power reaches 476 HP (in the race it reaches 408 against the current 299 ) and the novelty is the front engine which adds 250kW to the 350kW of the rear one, more than doubling the regenerative capacity of the current Gen2 Evo (250 kW) for a total of 600 kW. Based on the simulations, the drivers will have to be able to get 40% of the energy needed to reach the finish line in the race, but a lot will depend on how (and if) the organizers decide to take advantage of the possibility of fast charging. And that is if the pit stop will become mandatory for refueling or if the teams will be able to evaluate alternative strategies. Driver included, the Gen3 (already tested for over 5,600 kilometers) weighs 780 kilograms, 120 less than today. The car was shortened by 16 centimeters (5 meters: the wheelbase went from 3.1 to 2.97) and narrowed by 7 (1.7 meters) while the battery capacity was reduced from 52 to 51 kWh (from 385 to 284 kilograms of weight), even if in half a minute, thanks to the new system, it will be able to earn up to 3-4 kWh.
The accumulators, which will again be supplied by Williams, are among the “most advanced and sustainable ever made”, assure the organizers. They are also made from sustainably sourced minerals, while the battery cells will be reused and recycled at the end of their life. For the bodywork, linen and recovered carbon fiber were used with a reduction of the carbon footprint of more than 10%. The compound of the tires will depend for 26% on natural rubber and recycled fibers: all the wheels will then be totally recovered at the end of the races. Formula E has also “dared” more in design: the new single-seaters are open-wheeled and have practically no rear wing.
