Geraldine Fernández, the Colombian illustrator who claimed to have participated in the award-winning film ‘The Boy and the Heron’ directed by the Japanese Hayao Miyazaki, winner of a Golden Globe, issued a statement this Thursday in which she recognizes that everything was a lie.

The 30-year-old illustrator publicly confirmed that “the situation got out of hand” and that what happened was the product of a “bad exercise.”

At first he claimed to have made about 25,000 frames for the film, which corresponds to approximately half an hour of footage, although he later acknowledged “having exaggerated”, while continuing to maintain that he had participated in the project and saying that he had participated in “a couple of scenes” in the film.

The alarm about the veracity ofthe story of Fernández, that numerous media outlets began to collect without contrasting it, jumped on social networks, when workers from the animation industry itself began to point out inconsistencies in the story, such as the fact that his name did not appear in the final credits of the film.

In the statement, Fernández clarified that she was advised to tell the truth: “It must come to light, everyone deserves to know it,” adding that it was very difficult for her to retract it after the story went viral in the media.
