Extreme Cold Temperatures in Inner Mongolia Do Not Deter Railway Workers

On February 5, the city of Tongliao in Inner Mongolia experienced freezing temperatures of minus 28°C, but this did not deter the workers in the Hesgewula line workshop of the Tongliao Public Works Section of China Railway Shenyang Bureau Group Co., Ltd. These workers, dressed in thick cotton hats, gloves, neck gaiters, and other cold-proof equipment, braved the harsh weather to carry out maintenance and repair work on the railway lines.

The Tongliao Public Works Section of China Railway Shenyang Bureau Group Co., Ltd. organized workers to carry out freezing damage repair operations on the Zhuzhou-Zhuhai Railway. This railway is a crucial channel for coal transportation in Inner Mongolia and is often covered with thick snow from October to April, making maintenance and repair work extremely challenging.

The workers arrived at kilometer 163 of the Zhuzhu Line to begin their operations under the supervision of on-site supervisor Su Wancheng. Despite the difficult conditions, they diligently worked to repair the freezing damage on the railway lines to ensure the safe and smooth transportation of coal during the Spring Festival travel season.

According to Yu Liguo, the deputy director of the workshop, this year’s heavy rainfall led to higher winter freezing damage than in previous years. The expansion of the surface layer caused the freezing damage on the railway lines, making it necessary for the workers to perform backing work to ensure the stability and safety of transportation.

After four hours of intense work, the workers successfully completed the day’s maintenance tasks, and Su Wancheng confirmed that the area had been maintained up to standard. Ma Hong, one of the workers, expressed that while they may not be directly serving Spring Festival passengers, ensuring the safe transportation of coal contributes to bringing warmth to families during the festive season.
