At least six people have died of starvation in the space of a month in the Rusayo 3 displaced person site, the president of this site, Joseph Kamara, warned on Friday, May 10.
According to Joseph Kamara, this displaced person site located not far from a UNICEF base is home to around twenty-three thousand households. He adds that due to a lack of food assistance, people are dying from malnutrition:
“We need food because there are a lot of people dying here. There are six people who died due to starvation in the span of a month.”
The president of the Rusayo 3 displaced persons site also raises the question of protection against the daily crackling of bullets on this site. In terms of hygiene, Rusayo 3 only has six toilets and four showers for the twenty-three thousand households that live there, deplores Joseph Kamara.
He launches an urgent appeal to humanitarian partners to come to the aid of these thousands of people who have fled the clashes between the FARDC and the M23 rebels.
Joseph Kamara finally asks the authorities to end the war in order to allow these displaced people to return and resume their activities in agriculture and livestock breeding.
