Sniffing Iceland, eating a draw
As soon as Eberhard discovers the yellow food balls filled with apples, he sniffs his way through his snow-covered farm enclosure. First he smells the ball with the Icelandic flag. But the ball with the draw was more exciting for him and he sealed his tip by eating the apples.
This makes his animal keeper Steffen Schröder smile broadly. His protégé hasn’t had much to do with handball yet: “He’s more into handball. He doesn’t have any hands, and playing with his feet is also difficult.” At the Handball World Cup five years ago, sea lion Astrid predicted the results in Cologne Zoo.
Offspring expected
Eberhard has more experience in protecting his own species than in handball. Swabian-Hallian pigs are an old farm animal breed that is threatened with extinction. The four-year-old boar has already produced 6 litters with 60 offspring at the Cologne Zoo.
If he predicts the result for the game against Croatia next Wednesday at the end of the main round, Eberhard could get even more visits from reporters. Then the next offspring is expected from him and his sow “Uschi”.
